What Does Food Insecurity Look Like?

The answer may surprise you.

When you picture someone experiencing hunger, who comes to mind?

Food insecurity doesn’t have one face. It can affect a child who depends on school meals, a senior stretching a fixed income, a parent working two jobs, a veteran, a person with a disability, or a family facing an unexpected expense.

Food insecurity isn’t necessarily about having nothing to eat. It can mean not knowing whether there will be enough food to last until the next paycheck. It can mean buying less nutritious food because it’s cheaper, skipping meals so children can eat, or choosing between groceries and another essential expense.

A car repair, medical bill, reduction in work hours, rent increase or other unexpected expense can quickly upset a household budget that was already stretched thin.

That’s why Community Table is here.

We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food and the opportunity to seek help without judgment. Our Client Choice Food Pantry allows neighbors to select foods that fit their households, dietary needs and preferences—much like shopping at a grocery store.

And when food isn’t the only challenge, Community Table can connect people with additional services and resources designed to help them move toward greater stability.

Hunger Can Happen to Anyone

Behind every visit to Community Table is a person with a story—not a stereotype.

When you donate, volunteer or support Community Table, you’re helping a neighbor through what may be a difficult chapter in their life.

And you’re reminding them of something equally important:

Their community cares.
